I never believed I had what it took to be a foster mom. I’m one of those clingy girls, who falls in love on the first date, and my relationship with animals is exactly the same. After only a week of fostering Mama, she had already found her forever home, and I… I was a weepy mess from the moment I knew she was leaving, ’til the moment I let go of the leash.
Mama
You’ll never forget your first foster dog, just like you’ll never forget your first boyfriend, but, unlike nasty breakups, you’ll leave your foster pet on good terms. Despite the sadness and feeling of loss, there are always some tears falling for the happily ever after you know is in store for them. It’s a story every homeless pet deserves but not all of them are fortunate enough to experience.
This one simple fact is what pushed me past my emotional blocks. I used to be the girl who said, “I could never do that,” and asked, “how do you let them go?” Now I know what it’s like to be on the other end of that question. And my answer? I let them go with a tear in my eye, a hand on my heart, and, ultimately, a serene sense of satisfaction to have had a hand in another rescue story.
I originally wrote about each one of my foster fur babies on my photography blog, so if you want to get all the details, just click a photo to be linked to the full story.

A Proud Failure with Gracie Lou
Since we’ve adopted Gracie Lou, we haven’t been able to foster any more pets. With two cats and a dog in a studio apartment, there just isn’t enough room. I definitely miss fostering, and it’s something I know we will do in the future. Until then, My Rescue Rocks is my way of contributing to the rescue world. If I can’t help make new rescue stories, I want to share yours!
If you have a rescue story to share please submit it here, the podcast launches in less than a month!!
